Notifications

The bell icon shows your notifications with an unread badge. Settings → My notifications shows the full paginated list with totals.

You can mark a notification read, or Mark all read. When there is nothing waiting: "All caught up!"

What you are notified about

  • Account changes — registration, activation, deactivation, role or account type changes

  • Subscription events — created, activated, canceled, past due, paused, resumed, trial started, cancellation scheduled

  • Usage thresholds — approaching or reaching AI chat or embedding token limits

  • A note of yours was reported — if someone uses the Report button on a note you shared publicly, the notice comes to you as its owner

  • Workspace membership — you are invited to a workspace, someone accepts your invitation, or you are removed from a workspace

  • Reminders — a reminder that reminds you comes due. The notification is titled Reminder and names the note; Open note takes you to it, in whichever workspace it is. Copies of a reminder in one note send one notification, and you get at most 20 reminder notifications a day from one note and 50 a day in all

  • Mentions — someone in a shared workspace types @ and picks your name in a note, the search box or a board's Add note box

  • Workspace export — an export you started is ready to download, or failed; Open export takes you to the Export page

There is also a test notification type used to verify delivery.

What you are not notified about

Worth being clear, because these are common expectations:

  • No notifications for date properties. A date property such as Due shows on the Calendar page but notifies no one. To hear about a date, add a reminder to the note.

  • No notifications for note activity. Nothing arrives when a member edits a note in a shared workspace, or when someone opens a note you shared publicly. To see who changed what, open the note — the save status names the last editor, and version history has the rest. There are no comments in Notez.

  • No digests or email summaries of your notes.

Apart from reminders, mentions, the report notice and exports, notifications are about your account and access, not your writing.

Notification settings

Settings → My notifications has one switch, Email notifications ("Get an email when you receive a notification"), and it is on by default. Turning it off stops the notification emails; the bell still gets everything, and workspace invitations are still emailed. There is no way to turn individual notification types on or off.

Where notifications appear

Notifications appear in the app, via the bell icon, on web and desktop.

Some are also emailed while Email notifications is on: reminders, mentions, a report on a note you shared publicly, someone accepting your invitation, your removal from a workspace, and a workspace export that is ready or failed. The email goes only to a verified address. Workspace invitations are always emailed, so you can accept one without being signed in already.

A due reminder also shows as a system notification while Notez is open: in the Mac app, or in a browser that you have already allowed to show notifications from notez.dev. Notez does not ask the browser for that permission. Clicking the notification opens the note.

A calendar app subscribed to your calendar link does not alert you about reminders. The notification comes from Notez.

There are no browser push notifications. While Notez is closed, only the emails reach you; everything else waits in the bell until you next open the app.

Languages

The Notez interface ships in six languages:

  • English

  • Russian

  • Spanish

  • French

  • Portuguese

  • German

Change it in Settings → Language and region. Your choice is remembered, and anything not yet translated falls back to English.

This is the interface language only. It does not translate your notes, and it does not change what language AI chat replies in — ask it in the language you want, and it will follow.

The words you type after @ to add a reminder, such as @tomorrow, are read in the interface language. A date written as @2026-12-24 works in every language.
