Sharing in Notez is one thing done simply: a public, read-only link to a single note.
To give someone an account-based, editable seat on a whole set of notes instead, see Sharing a workspace with other people.
Share a note
Open the note → menu → Share.
The dialog is titled Share this note, with the description "Anyone with the link can view this note." Flip the toggle from Private to Public, then copy the URL. You will see a Link copied confirmation.
Once a note is public, the menu item reads Sharing settings.
The link looks like:
https://notez.dev/share/<token>
What visitors see
A clean, read-only page with the note's title and content. Nothing else — no tags, no properties, no sub-notes, no account of yours.
Visitors cannot edit, comment, or see any other note. No account is needed.
Links inside a shared note that point to notes you have not shared show as unavailable. Sharing one note never exposes the notes it links to.
Images and files embedded in the note are reachable by anyone with the link.
Stop sharing
Flip the toggle back to Private. The link stops working immediately.
Turning sharing off discards the token permanently. If you share the same note again later, it gets a new URL — the old link will not start working again. Anyone still holding the old link is locked out, which is what you want when revoking access.
Anyone with the link can view
There is no password and no account check. Treat a share link as public:
Search engines can index it if it is posted somewhere crawlable
Anyone the link is forwarded to can open it
Do not share notes containing credentials or personal data
To revoke, toggle it off.
What a share link does not include
Stated plainly, since these are common expectations:
No expiry dates — links stay live until you turn them off
No passwords
No permission levels — view only; no comment or edit access
No per-person invites — a share link cannot be addressed to one email address
No view analytics — no count of who opened it
Share links versus note links
A note has two kinds of link, and they do different jobs:
Copy link in the note's ⋯ menu copies the note's own address,
https://notez.dev/notes/<id>. It only opens for people in the note's workspace, after they sign in, and it is what you paste into Claude, ChatGPT or AI chat to point them at the note. It never makes the note public.Share creates the public
https://notez.dev/share/<token>link described above, which anyone can open. It carries no note id, so an AI assistant cannot use it to find the note — give it the note link instead.
Share links versus shared workspaces
Two different tools:
Public share link | Shared workspace | |
|---|---|---|
Scope | One note | The whole workspace |
Access | Anyone with the link | People you invite by email |
Account needed | No | Yes |
What they can do | Read only | Read and edit |
Revoke | Toggle off | Remove the member |
Use a share link to publish one note to the world. Use a shared workspace to work with someone on many notes.
If you need several notes to be publicly readable, share each one individually — a share link still covers exactly one note.
See Workspaces for how isolation works.
If a shared note is reported
Public pages carry a Report button, rate-limited to 5 reports per hour. If someone reports a note you have shared, you receive a notification about it — the report goes to you as the note's owner.
This exists so public links cannot be used to host abusive content without the author knowing.
